My rating: 5/5

Plot: Amy Curry has recently suffered a great loss in her life that completely changed things for her and it doesn't seem for the better. In need to take her mother's car from California all the way to Connecticut, yet unable to drive herself because of recent events,Roger comes in the picture to help. The son of Amy's mother's best friend,Roger ends up as the designated driver that'll take Amy and the car to mrs. Curry. To both of their surprise, the two decide against the settled course of their trip and end up going for an (you guessed it) epic detour, having what might just be the adventure of their lives.

Thoughts on the book:
I LOVED THIS BOOK!
And don't even get me started on the playlists. Not only were they a nice addition to the book in terms of dimension as the other things, but the songs in them themselves were absolutely on point.First of all,the story itself got me hooked.Give me a lovely, slightly sad contemporary or a roadtrip book and I am happy. The writing was amazing and the book itself was a piece of art, with not only a beautiful story, but also the added extras such as receipts, post cards, drawings, photos, notes and e-mails,which just give the story so much more dimension.

And don't even get me started on the playlists. Not only were they a nice addition to the book in terms of dimension as the other things, but the songs in them themselves were absolutely on point.
I loved the storytelling and characters and different dynamics between people and the portrayals of growing up and overcoming fear and changing and starting a new life and family and friendship and everything.
I mean, sure, the romance itself felt a bit unnecessary, but I predicted it before even starting the book,so I knew what to expect. And,at the end of the day,the beautiful roadtrip and the things those two shared and the friendship that developed between them was nice enough for me to ignore the rest,so there went that.
Roadtrip books are amazing,man.

Gods, monsters and ugly sea fish - Frances Hardinge's DEEPLIGHT

Rating:  ★★★.75 / 5 Plot: For centuries the gods of the Undersea ruled the islands of the Myriad through awe and terror: they were very real, and very dangerous. Sacrifices were hurled into the waters to appease them, and every boat was painted with pleading eyes to entreat their mercy. They were served, feared and adored. Then, thirty years ago, the gods rose up in madness and tore each other apart. Now, none remain. The islands have recovered and the people have patched their battered ships and moved on. On one of these islands live Hark and his best friend Jelt. To them, the gods are nothing but a collection of valuable scraps to be scavenged from the ocean and sold. But now something is pulsing beneath the waves, calling to someone brave enough to retrieve it. Review: The more I think about this book, the more in awe I am even though it's been a while since I've finished it. I had heard people singing Hardinge's praise for age...
