One of those things that just come with being human are expectations. Now,thinking about this, they are either your best friend or your biggest enemy. No frienemies here, folks.
As the complex being that we,humans, are,we tend to have a very specific idea about how things are going to be like for us,and they are called expectations.Well,I guess that's not the best deifinition,so let's go for something better.
The Oxford dictionary defines the word 'expectation' as :
noun
1.a strong belief that something will happen or be the case:reality had not lived up to expectations[mass noun]:I sat down in expectation of a feast of nostalgia
a belief that someone will or should achieve something:students had high expectations for their future
(expectations) archaic one’s prospects of inheritance.
2. Mathematicsanother term for expected value.
Me,I am a much bigger fan of urbandictionary.com,so let's check this one out :
1. expectations
a guaranteed way for you to make sure that people will consistently disappoint you
the girl had high expectations of guys; she actually thought that the guy would not actually stomp on her heart and break it.
*They also have some other cool definitions of this, and tons of other stuff,I just love urban dictionary,so check it out: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=expectation *
So,yeah, expectations usually turn out to be something quite tragic and disappointing, tragically. We usually tend to have very specific, epic ideas of how things have to be and stuff,so we just focus on that and tend to leave out the fact that, maybe, just maybe, things don't really tend to go the way we plan them. This way,we just let ourselves get into the mood and get excited and all that, just to be hit in face by a surprise(I wanted to say asteroid, but that metaphor was just a little to harsh,I suppose).
Yep.
Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.
It really sucks when you have this epic idea of something or somewhere or someone in your head, and then life goes like BOOM!Reality check, fella. So it just goes all mean-girls on you.Raise your hand if you have ever felt personally victimized by life?Nah?Too many 'Mean girls' references?Okay, okay.
You got my idea.
Having expectations really sucks, but I guess it's something that we all just do,because it is somewhat in our nature, which is even worse. But then,it also happens from time to time for us to expect something to suck as hell, and we have really low expectations, but that thing isn't actually that bad,so we just feel a little better with ourselves.
Anyways,I'd love to hear about your last failed expecations, like,I don't know,Prince Charming actually being a ... ummm...Captain Hook?(Not the Once Upon a Time like Hook,I'd take him anytime)
Love always,
Me.
